Dear IMPAACT Colleague:

You are invited to attend the 2008 International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) Group Meeting. The 2008 IMPAACT Group Meeting will be held from Monday, April 7, through Wednesday, April 9, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott hotel. The Group Meeting is being held in collaboration with the HIV Prevention Trials Network. This will provide a unique opportunity for cross-Network collaborations and networking.

Community Advisory Board (CAB) Retreats:

Leading up to the meeting, an Americas Regional Community Advisory Board Retreat will take place Friday, April 4 through Saturday, April 5. There will also be a full IMPAACT CAB Retreat held on Sunday, April 6.

Site Leadership Training:

A 1-day training and orientation will also take place on Sunday, April 6, for CRS investigators, study coordinators, and site personnel. The overall goal of this training will be to help site investigators, coordinators, and site staff understand and carry out their roles and responsibilities in conducting IMPAACT clinical trials at their sites.

A preliminary agenda will be updated continually and made available online at http://impaact.s-3.com/mtginfo.htm. The major scientific sessions will begin on Monday, April 7 at 8:00 a.m. and run through the afternoon of Wednesday, April 9. A Networks Welcome Session sponsored by the collaborating Networks will take place on Monday, April 7, beginning at 6:00 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend this networking event.

Please register by Friday, March 14 through the IMPAACT Web site at http://impaact.s-3.com/mtginfo.htm. Once you have registered, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. If you do not register by this date, we may be unable to provide you with meeting materials in advance.

Hotel reservations should be made at the Crystal Gateway Marriott by March 14 for non-supported attendees. In order to ensure adequate sleeping room availability, we request that you make your hotel reservations after your travel arrangements are finalized and that you do not reserve a large number of sleeping rooms unless it is certain that the rooms will be used. If rooms are reserved and subsequently canceled, the IMPAACT may incur a penalty. Note that registering at the hotel does not automatically register you for the meeting.

A block of single sleeping rooms has been reserved at the Crystal Gateway Marriott hotel from Saturday, April 5, through Wednesday, April 9, at the rate of $251 per night, plus 10.25% tax, for single and double occupancy. This block of rooms will be held until March 14. Participants should call the Crystal Gateway Marriott at +1-703-920-3230 before March 14 to make sleeping room reservations with a credit card. Please reference the IMPAACT Meeting. After this date, reservations will be accepted on a space- and rate-available basis only. We cannot guarantee space at the host hotel if reservations are not made by March 14. In order to ensure sleeping room availability for other participants, we ask that you not make your reservations until your travel plans are finalized. Check-in time is 4:00 p.m., and check-out time is 1:00 p.m.

The hotel accepts all major credit cards. If you are charging the room costs with a credit card that does not show your name on the front of the card, you will need to submit a credit card authorization form. Long Distance Travel

Participants are responsible for arranging their own air/rail transportation into the Washington, D.C., area. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is the airport nearest to the hotel, approximately 15 minutes by taxi. .


Ground Transportation

You can reach the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel as follows:

By Hotel Shuttle: The Crystal Gateway Marriott provides complimentary shuttle bus service between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and the hotel. Upon arrival at the airport, take the following exits to the hotel shuttle:

  • If arriving at Terminal A, exit to the hotel shuttle stop.
  • If arriving at Terminals B or C, proceed to baggage claim and exit from Doors 5 or 9.

By Taxi: Taxi service is available at a cost of approximately $8 one-way. Taxis are located outside the baggage claim area.

By Shuttle Bus: Follow the signs to "Ground Transportation." The Super Shuttle has a representative outside the terminal who will call for a shuttle. The cost is approximately $12 one-way. For more detailed information about the Super Shuttle, call 800-BLUE VAN (800-258-3826).

By Metro: Board the Blue Line toward Addison Road or the Yellow Line toward Mount Vernon Square–UDC. Exit at the Crystal City station proceed through the glass doors and turn left past the shops. Continue toward the Crystal Gateway Marriott lobby.

By Taxi: Taxi service is available at a cost of approximately $55 one-way. Taxis are located outside the baggage claim area. Travel time from Washington Dulles International Airport is approximately 50 minutes.

By Shuttle Bus: Follow the signs to "Ground Transportation." The Super Shuttle has a representative outside the terminal who will call for a shuttle. The cost is approximately $26 one-way. For more detailed information about the Super Shuttle, call 800-BLUE VAN (800-258-3826).

By Taxi: Taxi service is available at a cost of approximately $65 one-way. Taxis are located outside the baggage claim area. Travel time from Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport is approximately 75 minutes.

By Shuttle Bus: Follow the signs to "Ground Transportation." The Super Shuttle has a representative outside the terminal who will call for a shuttle. The cost is approximately $44 one-way. For more detailed information about the Super Shuttle, call 800-BLUE VAN (800-258-3826).

By Taxi: Taxi service is available from Union Station at a cost of approximately $15 to $18 one-way. Allow approximately 20 minutes travel time during non-rush hour and up to 40 minutes during rush hour from Union Station to the Crystal Gateway Marriott.

By Metro: Board the Red Line toward Grosvenor or Shady Grove. Exit the Red Line at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station. Board the Yellow Line going toward Huntington. Exit at the Crystal City station proceed through the glass doors and turn left past the shops. Continue toward the Crystal Gateway Marriott lobby.
