TRACK C MOTHER-TO-CHILD TRANSMISSION

The issue of transmission of HIV from mother to child and its potential impact on communities has become a critical concern for the Caribbean territories. This track presents the status of current research on mother-to-child transmission (vertical transmission, perinatal transmission) globally, with a special focus on the Caribbean region. It includes the factors associated with transmission and prevention and successful intervention models both within and beyond countries of the Caribbean.

This track also highlights regional interventions to reduce perinatal transmission, plans for scaling up the response, alternatives to breastfeeding, and the integration of care for mothers and young children.
