CONFERENCE PROGRAM -- TRACK B

Description | Learning Objectives | Sessions

TRACK B TREATMENT, CARE, AND SUPPORT

The value of providing antiretroviral therapy has been recognized as both a method of treatment and a prevention strategy for persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. In response, many Caribbean countries have initiated some level of comprehensive or limited antiretroviral treatment programs, including highly active antiretroviral therapy with directly observed therapy. Current regional treatment programs are at various stages of implementation and have experienced varying degrees of success. This track explores the research findings, issues, and best practices in the areas of antiretroviral and medical treatment, opportunistic infections case management, and other care and support service issues for people living with HIV/AIDS.

This track also presents the latest developments in treatment and care research in the Caribbean, including plans for scaling up treatment responses. Care for children living with HIV/AIDS—including the issues of early diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of infants and children with HIV/AIDS—and regional responses to the pediatric AIDS epidemic will also be discussed.
