CONFERENCE PROGRAM -- TRACK A

Description | Learning Objectives | Sessions

TRACK A PREVENTION AND BEHAVIORAL CHANGE

Regional prevention programs have recognized the importance of culture and, in some cases, ethnicity in designing effective HIV/AIDS prevention programs and strategies. This track addresses state-of-the-art knowledge of behavior modification principles, practices, and strategies in the multicultural Caribbean region, as well as seeks to examine the contextual relationships and dynamics between HIV prevention and the issues of culture and ethnicity in the Caribbean . The impact of these issues on developing effective and sustainable strategic responses for the prevention and mitigation of the spread of HIV/AIDS is also addressed.

This track also focuses on the issues that would bring about the behavioral changes necessary to reduce transmission and sustain the efficacy of program responses. The role of the community of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), community-based organizations, nongovernmental organizations, faith-based organizations, and social marketing and media will be examined. Best practices and lessons learned will be presented and discussed.
