CONFERENCE PROGRAM -- TRACK F

Description | Learning Objectives | Sessions

TRACK F VULNERABLE POPULATIONS AND HIV/AIDS

A number of groups vulnerable to or at high risk for HIV infection have been identified in the Caribbean, including youth and adolescents, women and girls, drug and substance abusers, commercial sex workers, men who have sex with men, incarcerated populations, and orphans, “street kids,” and other vulnerable children. The issues of gender and gender identity play a crucial role in determining a person’s vulnerability to HIV infection. Understanding this perspective, as well as the different cultural nuances in a multicultural, plural Caribbean society, allows for more effective HIV/AIDS prevention planning and programming.

This track explores strategies to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic as it affects vulnerable populations in the Caribbean and focuses on best practices designed to respond to and address the needs of these specific populations.
