CONFERENCE PROGRAM -- TRACK E

Description | Learning Objectives | Sessions

TRACK E STIGMA AND DISCRIMINATION

The negative impact of stigma and discrimination on individuals living with HIV/AIDS continues to be the greatest barrier to status disclosure, testing, effective care, and prevention. The social issues of stigma and discrimination, their negative impact on treatment and prevention, HIV/AIDS in the workplace, and the attitude of health care professionals toward PLWHA represent some of the human rights issues that affect PLWHA and those affected by HIV/AIDS. Local, national, and regional experiences of HIV-related stigma will be presented for discussion in an effort to foster new partnerships and promote further dialogue among PLWHA, health care professionals, service providers, and policymakers.

This track addresses both the social and the legal issues that affect PLWHA in the Caribbean and will review the impact of the legal framework in Caribbean territories on the quality of life of those infected with, and affected by, HIV/AIDS.
