TRACK G CRITICAL ISSUES AFFECTING THE CARIBBEAN REGION
 

A number of issues that affect the transmission of HIV are unique to the Caribbean region and need to be addressed separately and independently of traditional HIV/AIDS issues. Issues such as mainstreaming HIV/AIDS, immigration and migration, and the economic impact of HIV/AIDS in various countries of the Caribbean will be examined. Multicultural perspectives will be presented as they relate to masculinity and HIV, the role of women and HIV, and the intersection of violence and HIV.

This track addresses the unique issues of the diverse Caribbean culture, specifically the social, economic, and human service factors in the Caribbean region that affect access to prevention, care, and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of the track’s sessions, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the key social, economic, and human service features that affect HIV prevention, care, and treatment in the Caribbean region

  • Understand the multicultural approaches needed to address HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean region

  • Gain knowledge of the multiple strategies required to improve access to prevention, care, and treatment for people with HIV in the Caribbean region
